Grand Theft Auto VI moves the series to the fictional state of Leonida — Rockstar's take on modern Florida. Here is what has actually been shown, and what is still guesswork.
What's confirmed
- The game is set in the state of Leonida, a stand-in for Florida.
- Vice City returns as the central metropolis — the series' Miami analogue, last seen in 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
- The reveal trailers show far more than a city: beaches, the keys, swampy wetlands, and rural stretches all feature.
- The tone leans into a sun-soaked, neon, social-media-era version of the region.

Beyond the city: rural Leonida, like Port Gellhorn at sunset.
What we don't know yet
- Rockstar has not published a full map or a definitive list of named cities and towns.
- Fan names for outer regions and towns are drawn from trailer signage and leaks, and are not officially confirmed.
- The map's true scale has not been stated by Rockstar.
We only list locations and regions here once they are shown or confirmed. Community-sourced map pins are labelled as reported and unconfirmed.
Verified world and map additions
Preview material describes Leonida as a much larger, more reactive world. Reported comparisons put the full map at roughly twice GTA V’s size and three times Red Dead Redemption 2’s, with Vice City around twice Los Santos and its wider surroundings far larger again. The final playable boundary is still best understood through the released game, but this size comparison is now part of the verified preview record.
The map and HUD can be tuned for immersion: players can disable the map in favour of a compass, and use the HUD to set a waypoint against a physical location. Photo Mode is also confirmed. Preview reporting says days are longer than in GTA V, while Rockstar kept detailed weather behaviour under wraps.
