For the first time in the modern series, Grand Theft Auto VI has two playable protagonists: Jason and Lucia. Here is what Rockstar has confirmed about them and how they play.
Who they are
- Lucia Caminos is the series' first female playable lead in the modern 3D era. Rockstar introduced her fresh out of prison, looking to change her odds.
- Jason Duval is an ex-military drug runner who has been getting by doing jobs for local operators in the Keys.
- Their relationship is described as a "Bonnie and Clyde"-type partnership, meant to matter more than relationships in previous GTA games.

Two leads, one story.
How you play them
- There are three ways to play in the open world: as Jason and Lucia together, as just Jason, or as just Lucia.
- You can switch between them in the open world, not only during missions — for example, driving as one while the other uses the phone or shoots during a chase.
- Rockstar says player decisions can affect the pair in more emotionally meaningful ways than a simple honour system.
What we don't know yet
- The full arc of their story, and how choices change it, has not been detailed.
- Specific mission structure and how often the game forces or frees the character switch are unconfirmed.
Everything here is drawn from Rockstar's official reveal and trailers; we update it as more is confirmed.
Verified open-world switching additions
Outside missions, players can use Jason, Lucia, or both together. One confirmed example has Jason driving while the player switches to Lucia in the passenger seat to use the phone, then changes roles during a chase so one drives and the other shoots. When apart, switching uses a GTA V-style zoom transition.
Jason is described as an ex-military drug runner and Lucia as a fighter recently released from prison. Their identities remain authored characters rather than empty avatars, while players retain broad freedom in how they approach the world.
